finally
Four months ago I made a youtube video titled "Re-thinking youtube" where I noted that I was going to stop planning videos and just start "doing them(tm)". Up until this week I did fuck all. But! Now I finally found my formula. I'm going to entirely stop planning and just pick something I'm interested in and then do it live (o'reilly would be proud!). And that's exactly what I did this tuesday.

I've seen that real streamers have those nifty stream-boards that they bring up when they go to the toilet, when someone as a frequently asked question, etc. The concept is brilliant and saves a lot of time. I can just keep it on a virtual desktop and flip to it when it's needed. So, meta as it is, my first stream was about what.. my stream was about. But, my show is called "retro, code & pain", so naturally I couldn't just do it in a modern text editor. Heck no, that would have been entirely too easy and not at all painful enough. So I did it on an amiga 500 emulator running workbench 1.3. 7mhz and 1mb of ram baby! This environment is also very precious to me for sentimental values since it was my first introduction to graphical environments. Sure, I'm lot more comfortable in workbench 2+ since that's where I spent the most time but 1.3 was my formative period as it came with my amiga 500. At the end I even squeezed in a short highlighting of the game Colorado (1990). A game that truly embodies the word "pain". I used to be a soldier.. then I took an arrow to the balls..

It was fun! I have no idea if I got any viewers since nobody really spoke in the chat except for a bot but apparently I got at least one follower! So hey! Not planning ahead and just doing it(tm) really did make me finally stop procrastinating. I'm hoping to do this on a weekly basis, assuming I have found something that interests me. The live formula does lead to some dead air at times but I think it's worth it since it ensures that my reactions are genuine and authentic. It's why I prefer live formulas over edited ones on youtube.
